A shared family budget: everything you both spend, on one list

Everyone at home adds their own shopping, and everyone sees it. Photograph a receipt and Kerabat reads the lines and sorts them into categories. At the end of the month, you can see where the money went.

Who bought what, and how much has gone

One of you pays by card, the other in cash, and at the end of the month nobody knows how much you spent between you.

In Kerabat

Whoever paid adds the spend: amount, category, done. The Spending feed shows every purchase with a name on it, the month’s total and, to compare, last month’s. What’s written on one phone is on the other straight away.

The spending feed: October, $655.32 spent, with September under it, category chips, and today’s spending — the tennis pack, Anna; Trader Joe’s, Alex; and a Whole Foods receipt still to check — then yesterday’s.

A receipt photo, sorted into categories

One supermarket receipt is milk, bread and dish soap — different categories, and nobody wants to type it all in.

In Kerabat

Photograph a receipt and Kerabat reads the shop, the total and every line, and puts each line into your own categories: food under Supermarket, dish soap under Home supplies. Before you save, As on the receipt shows each line, and “Matches the total ✓” tells you it all adds up.

With no signal, the photo waits on the phone. Once you’re back online, Kerabat reads it by itself — you just check the lines and add it to your spending.

A receipt as on the receipt: seven lines — milk, sourdough loaf, gouda, apples and coffee under Supermarket, dish soap and sponges under Home supplies — and below them, 42.86 on the receipt, “Matches the total ✓”.

Where the money went

Receipts get lost in pockets, and at the end of the month there’s one question left: where did it all go?

In Kerabat

Totals shows the month category by category — receipts included, because each line lands in its own category. Paid in another currency? Kerabat asks how much your card was actually charged and remembers the rate. You can export your spending to a spreadsheet, too.

Bills: who has already paid

Electricity, internet, nursery — due on different days, and paid by one of you this month and the other the next.

In Kerabat

Each bill has its due date and a Pay button. When someone pays, the other phone shows who it was and when, and the spend lands in the month by itself. The same bill doesn’t get paid twice.

Due soon: summer camp, 200, due 12 October, and dancing for November, 50, each with a Pay button, and tennis, 5 of 8 left, with Renew. Below, under Paid today: tennis, 8 sessions — ✓ Anna, with the time she paid.

Questions about a shared family budget

How does a second person join?

In Settings → Members, make an invitation link and send it in any chat. Whoever opens it first joins your list; the link works for 7 days.

Does everyone see all the spending?

Yes — there is one shared list, and each spend shows who paid.

What if Kerabat misreads a receipt?

Before you save, you see every line: correct it, move it to another category or remove it. If the lines don’t add up to the total, Kerabat says so under them.

Does it work with no signal?

Spending and receipts can be added with no network — they’re kept on the phone and send themselves when you’re back online. Paying a bill waits for the network, and the button says so.

Does it work on iPhone?

Yes, in Safari — there is nothing to download from a store.

How to put it on your phone

Start with today’s shopping

Add your first spend or photograph a receipt, then invite the second person with a link in a chat.
